Ladakh achieved Full Functional Literacy under ULLAS program

  • Lt. Gov. of Ladakh, Dr. B.D. Mishra, declared Ladakh as the first administrative unit to achieve Full Functional Literacy under the ULLAS scheme.
  • The ULLAS - Nav Bharat Saaksharta Karyakram, or New India Literacy Programme (NILP), is a centrally sponsored scheme aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
  • It aims to empower adults aged 15 and above who missed formal schooling.

MoHUA rolls out Safai Apnao, Bimaari Bhagao initiative

  • The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs under Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 launched the Safai Apnao, Bimaari Bhagao (SABB) initiative from 1st July to 31st August 2024, aimed at mitigating monsoon-related health risks.
  • The initiative focuses on cleanliness drives, waste management, regular cleaning of toilets, sanitation for children, water quality sampling, drinking water supply etc.

C-DAC and AICTE partner to boost high performance computing education

  • C-DAC and AICTE signed a Memorandum of Agreement to develop human resources in High Performance Computing (HPC) and allied areas.
  • The initiative aims to enhance teaching skills, offer courses, and align education with industry needs.
  • Under the National Supercomputing Mission, this collaboration expects to train 2,500 faculty members and educate 50,000 students in HPC.

Girija Subramanian appointed CMD of New India Assurance Company

  • Girija holds a bachelor's degree in statistics, is a fellow member of the Insurance Institute of India, and a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute, London.
  • The New India Assurance Co. Ltd. is an Indian public sector insurance company owned by GoI and administered by the Ministry of Finance.

CSIR and AIIMS to pilot Biomedical Waste Conversion Project

  • Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and AIIMS, New Delhi will launch a pilot project to convert pathogenic biomedical waste into value-added soil additives, following an MoU signed during CSIR's 'One Week One Theme' campaign.
  • The campaign will run from June to December 2024, showcasing technology & innovative products across 8 themes, including healthcare & environment.
